Staðastaður, öðru nafni Sóleyjargata 1, hýsir skrifstofu forseta Íslands. Húsið lét Björn Jónsson, ráðherra og ritstjóri, byggja árið 1912.

Auk þess að vera forystumaður í íslenskum stjórnmálum á sinni tíð var Björn Jónsson faðir Sveins Björnssonar, fyrsta forseta lýðveldisins. Elísabet Sveinsdóttir, kona Björns, ólst upp á Staðastað á Snæfellsnesi og af þeim bæ dregur húsið nafn sitt. Síðar eignaðist Kristján Eldjárn þetta hús svo óhætt er að segja að það sé nátengt sögu þjóðhöfðingja Íslands.

Arkitekt Staðastaðar var Rögnvaldur Ólafsson sem var frumkvöðull í íslenskri byggingarlist. Viðbyggingu við húsið Fjólugötumegin hannaði Gunnlaugur Halldórsson. Á gömlum ljósmyndum sést að þegar húsið var byggt var það í útjaðri bæjarins og sunnan þess eða semsé í átt að flugvellinum var dreifbýli.

Staðastaður, also known as Sóleyjargata 1, houses the office of the President of Iceland. The house was built by Björn Jónsson, Minister and Editor, in 1912.

In addition to being a leader in Icelandic politics at the time, Björn Jónsson was the father of Sveinn Björnsson, the first president of the republic. Elísabet Sveinsdóttir, Björn’s wife, grew up in Staðastað in Snæfellsnes and from that farm the house takes its name. Kristján Eldjárn later acquired this house, so it is safe to say that it is closely related to the history of Iceland’s heads of state.
