- Gos hófst 2024-03-16. Kl 20:23 í Sundhnúkagíagaröðinni á milli Hagafells og Stóra-Skógfells, á svipuðum stað og gosið sem varð 8. febrúar.
- Gosið er mun öflugra heldur en fyrri gos undanfarna mánuði.
- Vel gekk að rýma bæði Svartsengissvæðið og Grindavík.
- Hraun rennur til Vesturs yfir Grindavíkurveg og í átt að hitaveitulögn.
- Hraun rennur til Suðausturs í átt að Suðurstrandavegi við bæinn Hraun.
- Hugsanlegt er að hraun renni í sjó við bæinn Hraun
- Ekki er gert ráð fyrir mikilli hættu á gasmengun næstu 24 klst.
- The eruption started 2024-03-16. at 20:23 in the Sundhnúkagia series between Hagafell and Stóra-Scógfell, at a similar place to the eruption that occurred on February 8.
- The eruption is much more powerful than previous eruptions in recent months.
- The evacuation of both Svartsengis area and Grindavík went well.
- Lava flows to the West over Grindavíkurveg and towards the heating pipes.
- Hraun flows to the southeast towards Suðurstrandaveg by the town of Hraun.
- Lava may flow into the sea near the town of Hraun
- No high risk of gas pollution is expected in the next 24 hours.
