Hæðargarðsvatn is a small and beautiful lake right by Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

The water is about 0.16km2 in size and there is no visible flow in or out of the lake. The water, on the other hand, is renewed by underground streams that are in the lava around the lake.

There is a lot of fish in this lake and there is a lot of rich trout there, but a lot of the fish is about 4 pounds in size.

It is believed that sea trout enters the water through an underground stream, and therefore part of the fish there is in fact sea trout.
