A glacial river in Lón, escapes from the eastern part of Vatnajökull. Rauðsvellir cliffs are a colorful rocky area not far from the ring road

Meltwater from these glaciers flows into one river, Jökulsá í Lóni, and the glaciers themselves are frequently referred to as the Lón glaciers. The Jökulsá í Lóni meanders in braided streams through the lowlands similar to the river, and it has often damaged vegetation and been difficult to cross. The bridge over it is 247 m
