Stjórn er á, sem á uppruna sinn í Geirlandshrauni. Með því að leggja leið sína yfir hæðirnar inn í fallegt gljúfur, verður Stjórn áin að ótrúlegum fossi sem kallast Stjórnarfoss sem sést frá brúnni fyrir neðan hann. Þaðan rennur áin norðaustur til láglendisins þar sem hún rennur saman við Geirlandsá og verður að Breiðbalakvísl á austanverðu Stjórnarsandi, þar til hún sameinast Skaftá.
