Hot spring geyser │ Iceland landscape photo
Documenting Iceland (2017)
by: Rafn Sig,-
Some places are different from others and some of them are more “hot”. This hot spring is outside from the general path and you need to walk for a while to get there. It’s not well known to the Icelandic people and I have never met someone when I’m there photographing.
I like to come to this geyser in Spring and Autumn cause it doesn’t matter if you have colors in the landscape as the geyser gives you all the colors and abstract you want. It is well worth to take a hike to this hidden gem and spend the day in this beautiful, unique place.
The thermal area of Austurengjar extends from east of Lake Grænavatn to Lake Kleifarvatn in the north. Hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles are scattered sparsely over the area. The largest and most powerful hot spring, called Austurengjahver, Engjahver, or Stórihver, is located east of Lake Grænavatn in about 1,6 km walk from the parking lot where a sign leads you on to the right trail.
